Ancient Greek Sport - Pankration One of the events in the famous Olympics of ancient Greece was the Pankration. A brutal combination boxing and wrestling, it can be thought of as a more violent version of today’s MMA where the only rule is that participants aren’t allowed to gouge out the other’s eye. Anything short of that was fair game: hair-pulling, finger-snapping, even grabbing the groin.
