I remember growing up as a child in Haiti with little to no knowledge of who I was. I accepted everything which those who obviously knew more than me was swinging at me at the time. Especially during those times when the foreigners missionary were coming into the country and convincing a lot of Haitians to identify as anything but a Haitian. They made me despised my true identity; the same thing happened likewise to a lot of other Haitians. They claimed everything of my culture was evil. So to think, I couldn’t even question them. If I did, I would have had been condemned of doing the devil’s work. They said I would perish eternally in an imagery Hell which God created for punishing folks like me who dared questioned ‘His’ words. But as I grew, I started to question them either way. You see, questioning things sometimes helps. It creates ways for you to go beyond the social norms of which you’ve been imprisoned since a young age and explore the unknown. So my journey begins. As I started it, I never once regretted it nor looked back. I started doing my own research on life within the existence and my identity as a Haitian. With the Ancestors aid almost immediately my eyes started to open. One day, I finally arrived at the ground were all I could do was turned my back on the foreigner’s identity. I was 15 years of age and I broke through their illusion which they have implemented within my psyche to despised my true self-consciously while they’d enslaved me subconsciously. I have to tell you, it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t. From time to time, I still have folks who wants to shame me for finally accepting me for who I truly am. You see, I came to realized that I being a Haitian and, from how the Haitian identity came into being would’ve never permitted me to be or identify as any other identity than who I am. I am Haitian and as long as I am a Haitian I will always remain a Haitian subconsciously and consciously. I am the fruit of the creator.— The Experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu0z6zyc2J8 -- source link
