thegentlemanscloset:Sleeveless waistcoat. German. 1750-1770. Cotton, linen, silk. Front: silk, red, brown, orange, satin weave; Back: linen, red; plain weave lining. Embroidery: metallic thread, gold, silk, yellow. In the collection of the German National Museum. I can’t help but think that the tailor who designed this waistcoat was inspired by Asia. The embroidery pattern in the front reminds me very much of Asian dragons. Asia had been a fertile market for Europe for awhile (after all the banyan, which was incredibly popular in Europe by this point, was originally an idea that was imported from Asia and used Asian materials). -- source link
