This is neither coincidentally funny nor is it heartbreakingly sad. This is the most devastating and soul-crushing action we had to witness in a very long time. The minute Sam is back he will not only beat himself up for what he has done, no, he will be furious with Dean but mostly he will blame himself for the rest of his life. Just like he always blames himself for everything; for every death he caused, even if it has never been his fault in the first place.Another layer of guilt Sam Winchester will put on and carry with him. None of this is going to end well and I’m scared of what Kevin’s death will do to Sam. #probably it will do nothing coz the writers don’t give a fuck about continuity and logic anymore #one episode sam will be devastated and the next he and dean will find a funny case and kevin will be forgotten just like adam (carrionofmywaywardson)UNFORTUNATELY, PROBABLY TRUEAnd honestly, it really chaps my ass that according to this, naturally Kevin’s death is sad because it’s all about Sam. Like, of course, main characters, etc., but two things: 1) I don’t think the writers actually intended it to be an instance of fridging a POC so a white main character could have more angst (which is what centering it on Sam is, after all I think they intended it as shock value for the midseason finale–but they meant that shock value to rest on our attachment to Kevin himself. 2) In this, they failed miserably, because they wasted Kevin throughout S9. I mean, criminal waste. It’s hard to really feel the impact of his death when he was never really around anyway–despite the fact that he was supposedly living with them–and when he was around it was either to do something kind of funny but minor, to be stuck on his main task, or to be freaking out. The work the show did with his character in the back half of S8 was one of that season's better features, and then they just completely sidelined him for no goddamn good reason until it was time to haul him out of storage only to die.THIS IS DEEPLY UNCOOL and poor storytelling. It’s also a really good example of the complete ditching of emotional continuity the show is suffering from this season, as the tags I quoted demonstrate. (Hint: lack of emotional continuity almost always = poor storytelling.) Which itself is SO FRUSTRATING, because emotional continuity is one of the things this show has always been best at? Since, like, season 2? For all S8’s failings, it had a something of a handle on that (though not, I think, as much as S6 and S7, which is why I like them better). This season is just all over the place. In conclusion: ADAMMMMMMMMMM -- source link
