nancy-birch: TW: This bio contains mentions of child trafficking and child sexual abuse.Nancy’s mother left her at the Foundling Hospital as a babe. Since she couldn’t read or write, she tied brass ring around her neck as a token of her love and with the hope that she would be able to identify her one day. Nancy was never reunited with her mother, but she always kept her foundling token to remind her that she once had a mother who loved her. Nancy was eventually sent to a workhouse where she fell into the clutches of Lydia Quigley who took her under the pretense of hiring a young maid to work in her fine house in Golden Square. Nancy was twelve years old when she began working in Lydia Quigley’s brothel, where she was subjected to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Lydia often said that Nancy was “so ugly” she was only good for “rough service,” and gave her over to the most violent of her clients. While she was at Golden Square, Nancy befriended Margaret Wells, whose mother sold her to Lydia for a pair of shoes when she was ten years old. Nancy and Margaret eventually escaped Golden Square together after Margaret’s daughter, Charlotte, was born. The night they escaped they talked into the night about what kind of bawd it might be possible to be. Nancy was inspired when Mags asserted that bawds and brothel workers should protect and defend each other. Mags went on to start her own brothel in Covent Garden, while Nancy found her calling as a “Mistress of Perversions,” or dominatrix. At the start of the current canon, Nancy Birch is a professional dominatrix with a house on Russell Street that she rents out to two other sex workers, Violet Cross and Betsey Fletcher. Nancy is still extremely close to Margaret Wells and backs her up in her ongoing feud against Lydia Quigley as well as acting as an additional mother figure to Charlotte and Lucy. Nancy considers Mags to be the love of her life, though she is very guarded because of the abuse she has suffered. (will probably be adding more to this later…) -- source link
