I can’t find the anatomy drawings but when you lock your elbow it does wonky things to the muscle and bone under pressure. It’s not just a matter of form but over time damages the body. If one fully extends elbow then barely bends it, the draw length is reduced by 1" or a little more usually. All the speed freaks out there thinking they need that inch might be doing it or might have been taught bad form or just don’t know. My elbow rotates crazy if I really lock it and it doesn’t feel natural. Like any hobby, bowling, golf, tennis…consistency is key. If someone is able to get a stance and form the same way over and over, perhaps for them, whatever it is, works. But one tends to torque the grip/riser/bow, white-knuckling-when the arm is locked out–all things you don’t want. There are more in depth ways to explain the grip and reasoning but if any are ‘new’ to archery and see this, don’t lock your elbow out. You’ll need that later, lol. -- source link
