novagoboom: tsarmander: Do people even know who Leviticus is? It’s not a man. It’s the book of the Levites. The Levites were a certain tribe of Israelites that inhabited Canaan, where their ancestor Levi, son of Jacob (who was referred to as “Israel” by God himself) had brought them. So, by 1400 BC, the Levites were living in modern-day Israel. At the same time, however, Greek society began to flourish and set up trade networks around the Mediterranean, which stretched as far as Palestine. The Greeks did NOT share the same conservative views as “God’s chosen people” - the Greeks, or more specifically the Mycenaeans, enjoyed a looser lifestyle as they ventured to expand their borders. They ate all day, drank, and had sex with men or women or both at the same time with no shame, sometimes resulting in unexpected pregnancies. It was actually very uncommon for a straight guy to not enjoy a male’s body now and then, and vice versa with women. Typically, when the Greeks invaded a place, they didn’t just kill people. They mated, inter-married, and had children with natives of the places they expanded to. In a desperate attempt to PRESERVE the customs and the race of the sons of Levi, “The Book of Leviticus” was written to sort of scare Levites away from Greek customs in the event of an invasion. Ever since, people have been afraid of homosexuality. Overstand!!! -- source link
