So I watched the new #aladdin last night. I have some mixed emotions. I’m sad my favorite part of the original movie as a kid was left out. The slave #jasmine scene that this #cosplay is based on. Disney appears to be waging a war on navels. I, however, am a traditionalist when it comes to costumes. I’d also like to say that a woman in chains who fights and beats her oppressor is powerful imagery , and can be very empowering to those who ever find themselves in similar predicaments. Metaphor or not. (I’m looking at you, slave leia.) And we don’t need to cover up every single belly button to drive that point home. Anyways, have some traditionally accurate slave jasmine cosplay.
