It can be expressly about him or about his relationship with whoever you ship him with or his relationship with his family or friends. So, basically, any Phil-related headcanons you have. Let’s see ‘em. I’ll get us started since it’s all my fault: Phil is not an outwardly emotive person but if he gives you a card for some event, he always ends up writing a long note that shows how much he cares. Jasper will never admit it, but Phil’s note in the sympathy card when Jasper’s grandmother died is what got Jasper through the worst of the grief. No matter what fic I’m reading, I always envision Phil as having sisters. I have no idea why this is, but he just seems like he has at least two, possibly three sisters, some of whom have kids of their own. Phil has never changed much. He was the same type of person in high school that he is now. You could always find him sitting in the library or near his group of friends with a book (non-fiction history books, or possibly fiction if they’re really good fight scenes). He’s the one who told them that their ideas were dumb but always follows them anyway to sneak them out of trouble. After a while he started teaching them a thing or two about sneaking round. No one at the school would have ever suspected little Phil Coulson could be the bad boy and he let them think that. And that’s what made him so good at it. (I love this one! He is so sneaky, really.) The biggest bane of Phil’s existence is not, in fact, Stark, but is, in fact, Jasper’s ridiculous crush on Maria. Jasper is so enamored with her he has no idea how to approach her, and Phil loses who Saturday nights to Jasper’s lamenting. He and Fury have a fifty dollar bet about when Jasper will finally do it or when Maria will finally notice. Though he won’t admit it to anybody, Phil’s favorite music is 90s pop music. You know, the ridiculously bubbly stuff. There’s a playlist on his iPod labeled “Czech grammar.” The playlist begins as follows: Spice Girls, “Wannabe” B*Witched, “C’est La Vie” Hanson, “Mmmbop” Mandy Moore, “Candy” Clint, being the nosy little shit he is, does eventually find the playlist (and attempts to claim it’s Phil’s fault for leaving his iPod somewhere as obvious as inside a locked desk drawer). Phil’s threats of no more sex, ever, are enough to convince him that maybe some things are best kept secret. (This does not, however, stop him from humming the chorus to Mmmbop over comms when they’re on particularly boring missions.) (Ooh! I like that one!) Phil has 6 nieces and 4 nephews between his siblings(except his youngest sister Jamie, who enjoys being a single artist in Portland and running a vintage shop with her best friend Sam), so he has always made sure to be the best uncle(and godfather in the case of his nieces Alison and Georgia) that he can be when he sees them. Clint actually met them for the first time when they were mostly in their teens at a family reunion a few years ago and hit it off with the younger ones when he played games with them and climbed trees with them too. He eventually hit it off with Phil’s older nieces and nephews when he told them stupid stories about the places he went on missions(minus, you know, the mission part) and winning the annual football game too. Phil was just happy that Clint was having fun and getting along great with his family, but wished Clint wouldn’t have gotten so muddy from playing football with them. While Phil does not openly express his emotions, in his head he is quite vocal. Whenever Fury makes a smart call he silently praises, in the presence of Cap he is fan-boying hard core, and Stark makes him cuss in 7 different languages. The reason Phil keeps it to himself is because he feels there is no reason to state the obvious and why give away his week points with his words? Still, it is always nice to know that there are good agents like Sitwell, Natasha, and Barton who will pick up on his slight physical cues so he never really has to worry about voicing his thoughts anyway. (Oh, I think this is absolutely the truth. His hate letters to Tony are probably EPIC.) Phil actually really likes Bruce. He appreciates Bruce’s quiet nature, and the two of them have spent a lot of time just sitting next to each other reading and consider each other friends. Phil’s undergraduate degree is in library studies, as is his master’s, he was in fact employed as a records keeper for the CIA before Fury recruited him. Because Fury knows when someone has potential if there is one thing Fury hates it’s wasted potential. -- source link
