Abram J. Gibson “Elephant Gun” 3 shot revolver,So what could be weirder about this pistol; the fact that its a three shot revolver, its large oversized triggger, or it folding barrel which gave it the nickname “Elephant Gun”? Patented by Abram J. Gibson in 1860 and produced at Worchester, MA, this unique revolver is certainly an oddity to behold. The barrel folded downward, making it more compact for carry. Chambered in .22 rimfire, it only held three shots. While not shown in the photo above the cylinder is actually halved, and had to be rotated by hand. For some reason Gibson designed the pistol with a larger than usual trigger which would have been fired with three fingers. When folded the barrel was supposed to to prevent the trigger from being disturbed, although accidental discharges were common due to this configuration. Its is unknown how many were produced, but very few are known to exist today. One in good condition can fetch as much as $5,000. One in excellent condition can be worth as much as $15,000. -- source link
