Agnes Lochinvar to Andrew McCarric, Winter 1753Dear Brother, Best Wishes for the New Year from Sweden! We’re settled comfortably in our little house at Sjöskog Slott. It does feel strange to live at a place not unlike Lochinvar Hall, but in a subordinate position. Nevertheless I’m glad to have my own household again and Aulay to have a way of earning his living. James is profiting greatly from all you taught him about sheep-farming. He’s a great help to his father and wants to follow in his footsteps when he grows up. Charlotte is helping me in the house as much as she can, and changed her name to “Lotta” for the sake of her new Swedish friends. How is everyone at home – in Scotland, I should say? I’m writing separately to Edward, I’m looking forward to seeing him again. I can’t thank you enough for supporting his education, I hope he’ll be able to repay you some of the money eventually. Until then, as it is conveniently cold outside, I’m sending you some dried moose-steaks as a holiday-treat for Christmas. Your sister Agnes. -- source link
