gay-impressionist:theunoriginaldaisy: h00kisback: thatjeanjacket:beyoncescock:THIS!! FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!! #this is a wider problem w subtitles in general#deaf audiences arent given the same chance to translate for themselves if they know a language like a hearing person might#and cursing. its. i hate ableist transcription fuck ableist transcription all my homies-@hobie-brown’s tags I totally agree that subtitles should be more accessible, but the language specific subs are sometimes obtuse on purpose. What they may be saying in your foreign language may be “an important plot point” you’re not yet meant to be privy to, but if you speak the language it gives you a little nod because you know information you’re “not supposed to”. I understand the frustration and completely agree that if the language being spoken in isn’t a plot device, it should always come subtitled! Hearing people who speak the foreign language would also be privy to a “secret plot point” so subtitles not writing whatever is being said is still ableist. It’s not just “frustration” just write the spanish sentence without translating it, how is that complicated ffs. subs should be equal to what you hear, not a lesser version -- source link
