butchflirt: Arms of some of the major noble houses in the Kingdom of Srintalo, some former ruling families, and some important gentry.- Wellebo: The Wellebos claim closest descent from the House of Welobo, which founded the Srintalon Empire, tracing descent from Charles Welobo, son of Emperor George I, called Darkblade, who passed Charles over in favor of his daughter Annabeth and her husband Harold in the line of succession in order to maintain Prospero as part of Srintalo. Charles, his son Gustan, and his son Andrew all crowned themselves King of Srintalo in opposition to the line of Annabeth and Harold, and thrice rose in rebellion against the crown until the last of the pretenders was slain by King James IV in single combat. These pretenders are honored by the coronets in the Wellebo family arms. The Wellebos make their seat in Talian, near the ruins of the old Imperial capital Tal, in a rocky fortress known as the Salt Rock for the waves which buffet it day and night. The current Earl of Talian is Ifran Wellebo, and his son Reed is a knight of some renown, leading an infamous company of men called the Unluckies into battle in Prospero.- Borges: The House of Borges was the second ruling dynasty of Srintalo following the Empire’s formation. A family of Prosperon origin, it was installed by Emperor George I to ensure Prospero would remain a part of the realm. The first Borges King was Harold I, called “the Bastard” because he was King by virtue of his marriage to George I’s daughter Annabeth, and not by virtue of descent. The Borges Kings faced three rebellions from Wellebo pretenders, and various other revolts throughout their reign. At last, the Borges dynasty was toppled in a rebellion led by Baron Olaf Stunor, who took the throne for himself as King Olaf VI, claiming descent from George I’s second son Hugo. The House of Borges remains extant, albeit with much reduced power and influence. They remain centered in Prospero, specifically the Basil province, and have been run off their lands due to their support for Prospero remaining a part of Srintalo.- Filius: A family of knights descended from blacksmiths - recalled in the sigil - the Filius family were sworn vassals of the Erolicts, and have remained some of that family’s closest allies since they took the throne. The House of Filius has benefited greatly from this alignment; due to their decisive role in crushing the revolt early in the reign of George III of the House of Erolict, the Filiuses were granted lands and titles stripped from some of the rebellious lords, raising them up to baronial status. It is whispered that Baron Keffrey Filius hopes to use his loyalty to the crown to his advantage in the latest conflict and claim the rich agricultural lands around Stiffin in Prospero for his own.- Banoius: The House of Banoius is a noble house from the mountainous north of Srintalo. They command the loyalty of most other nobles in the region and can field nearly 8000 men, making their support imperative for any Srintalon monarch. Despite their strength, they have preferred to play kingmaker rather than seize the throne for themselves, perhaps owing to the fact that their own descent from the royal family is weak and ancient. Their lands are known to be good and fertile hunting grounds, and they have become wealthy primarily through the fur trade.- Aurius: The House of Aurius originates from the holding of Sriss along the Talian River and were a baronial family until unexpectedly elevated to the kingship following a succession crisis in the sixth century ASE. With an established reputation as good stewards and economic savants, the Aurius kings ushered in a period of great prosperity and peace for Srintalo. The royal line ended when Queen Mary II, elderly and without issue or siblings, named her cousin Alexander Stern her successor. Today, the House of Aurius continues to hold its ancestral lands along the Talian, its days of ruling the realm a distant memory.- Montjoy: The Montjoys descend from heroes, so the stories say, epic champions of the Deusaera who slew innumerable monsters in the days with Srintalo was known as Zrintalum. As one of the most ancient families in the realm, their support is invaluable for any man who would call himself king. Their lands lie near Alton, one of the oldest cities in Srintalo, and they keep on display the armor of Monty the Joyful, the legendary founder of the family. They are one of the principle houses opposed to the current king, George IV, and his policy regarding Prospero, creating discontent among other lords which threatens to boil over into open rebellion.- Alaba: Another family of heroes, these ones much more recent. The Alabas are a knightly family formed around two centuries ago, by a wandering knight who saved King Olaf VII from an attack by giant man-eating snails. The grateful king awarded the knight lands and a keep near the city of Inn, and the Alabas have since gained a reputation as fierce supporters of the crown. Their role in quashing the rebellion against King George III has risen them even higher in esteem, and they are now viewed as among the crown’s principal bannermen.- Stern: The House of Stern ruled Srintalo for well over a century, and as the current ruling house of Erolict is of Stern descent, they are considered very loyal to the crown, particularly for a house whose lands lie primarily in Prospero, specifically around River City. The Sterns are known for their military prowess, and the family has produced some of the finest knights in Srintalon history. Baron Josha Stern serves as Master of Horse for King George IV, and his brother Maximan serves as master-at-arms at the Palace of the Sun, the royal residence.- Lexintuna: The Lexintunas are descended from sea captains, shipwrights, and merchants operating out of the port city of Windful, and the family has gone on to produce several lords admiral for the Srintalon navy - as well as much of the navy itself. Their naval power has made them invaluable allies for the crown, with Baron Kiph Lexintuna personally leading the present blockade of Molkovas, Prospero’s most important port. His son Lyle feels more comfortable on the land than in the water, and having recently been knighted is serving under Yeoman Reed Wellebo as part of the Unluckies, prosecuting the campaign in the Basil province. -- source link
