Excerpt from the magazine “Diabetes Forecast” re: the metabolic changes that occur after weight loss that oppose long-term weight management. In other words, individuals who lose weight have to eat less – and exercise more – to maintain their new weight than would someone of the same weight who was never overweight. My point is, weight management is far more complex than calories in versus calories out. In fact, there is evidence to suggest individuals who experience extreme weight loss go on to regain the lost weight – plus some – within 5 years. My advice, do not fat shame people. Fat shaming is cruel and ineffective. Not to mention, largely hypocritical considering a large percentage of overweight individuals already eat less than you. If you need to lose weight, focus on positive behaviors that are sustainable long-term to improve overall health and wellbeing. Leave weight out of the equation. Chances are, it’s better to simply maintain your weight (which, will still require positive lifestyle changes), than it is to participate in extreme weight loss schemes. Hope this help some. :)) xo, Dana (pls forgive typos, I’m on my phone). #nutrition #diet #weightloss #nutritionist #RD -- source link
