harrypotterconfessions: I do not dislike Lily just because she seemed to be a bad friend ALL along. I dislike her because we’re supposed to think that The Perfect Girl is someone who marries a misogynistic coward you’re supposed to “fix”. Someone who catcalls and sexually harasses her around since he’s obsessed: they say “He couldn’t control it”, which is a plain lie. Who bullies people she loves out of jealousy, uses blackmail to force her to date him because he refuses her “no” for years: “Go out with me and I’ll never lay a wand on Snivelly again”. Who threatens to HIT Lily, which abuse survivors call out: “Ah don’t make me hex you Evans”. Who makes her believe he has changed yet is still a bully behind her back, and who overall has been remorselessly violent against not only Snape but those he assaulted in the corridors “for the fun of it” and Lily herself. People visibly FEARED him. James Potter never grew up of his bullying habits, he never matured, and yet she bent to his will. I understand that refusing is scary given what he’s ready to do; still Lily had the choice to marry someone else, or not marrying at all. But I guess James Potter was such a good reminder of Rowling’s ex husband she couldn’t wait to congratulate him for having been so toxically possessive his own son wonders if he forced Lily to marry him. -- source link
