Where: Palazzo Vecchio Right in Piazza Signoria, where there is a shit load of tourists elbowing each other to see “fake david”, there is Palazzo Vecchio. I personally think that it is one of the most underrated tourist attraction, if you will, in all of Florence. You always always ALWAYS see people outside, but every time i go inside, it’s pretty empty. First and foremost, the building is huge. It’s so decorated that it’s almost disgusting, you really can tell that the Medici lived there. Every inch of every wall is decorated with huge ass paintings and statues. These people were crazy. Aside from my thought about the Medici family (they’re pompous, arrogant, vampires…) they did a pretty damn good job in their palace. There is just so much too see every where, and you really get a good idea about the economic power the family had in florence. I think the coolest thing about the Palazzo is that the Medici family commissioned paintings, and told the artists to depict specific stories. Because of this, a lot of the settings are familiar. It was fun going around and seeing paintings of what Piazza Signoria, for example, looked like during the renaissance and so on. We always got a little excited every time we saw our little piazza in one of the paintings, kind of like a celeb sighting. -- source link
