gleeksandtheirconfessions:Finn shouldn’t have outed Santana. Santana shouldn’t have bullied Finn and other people. Both were insecure teenagers who did and said things they shouldn’t. They were both in the wrong and both needed to be held accountable for their actions. As others have pointed out, the main difference is that FINN WAS NOT HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS AT ALL, BY ANYONE. Instead, he just blackmailed Santana to participate in a coming out parade she wanted no part of, denied any responsibility for outing her and blamed it all on the ad, never once apologized for what he did, called her sexuality a choice and got to play hero in a storyline he had no business being in, while her actual girlfriend was completely silenced and sidelined.Had the show actually acknowledged that FINN OUTED HER and used her sexuality to shame her, acknowledged that it was wrong of him to do and had him apologize, people wouldn’t hate that storyline/episode as much as they did and it wouldn’t be as hotly debated years later as it is. Characters are allowed to fuck up and be forgiven, lord knows that if you liked any character on this show, you’ve had to forgive something shitty, but when a character does something awful but isn’t held accountable for it in the narrative and thus is never redeemed for it in the narrative? I’m not exactly inclined to continue liking them all that much and whatever shitty thing they did will continue to bug me until the end of time. That was always the issue with Finn. He was always doing shitty things and was hardly ever held accountable for them. -- source link
