airyairyquitecontrary:motorcyclecoptor:supportivecoloredfriendboo:bonnienoire:motorcyclecoptor:Reason #102020 why this show was a huge letdown: This storyline was never fully explored and textually it actually seems like we’re supposed to agree that those people are oppressing themselves. Korra’s actions are never actually called out after this and her attitude toward the non-benders don’t really change. “You’re our Avatar, too.” Except not really. At least she never shows it because apparently everything was perfect again once Amon was defeated and the Equalists just seemingly went away and all the non-benders just stopped giving a shit about not having a member in the biggest political body in the city or people in the police department etc.If it didn’t sound so much like this plot will just be dropped for Season 2, I wouldn’t have minded, but S2 is all about spirits and shit so yeah. /rantalso just wanna say that the fact that two whites dudes had a WoC spouting this incredibly gross oppressor logic fucking makes me want to pukereblogging for commentary. bolding mine.Reblogging for the added commentary because it’s super noteworthy and important. This would be exactly why I don’t like Korra. I mean, there’s my anger about the way she and Mako treated Asami, but that’s small-time personal stuff, hill of beans etcetera. (Pema and Taylor Swift both need to stfu on that topic, though.) This, though, is big-time, political stuff that affects everyone in Republic City and ultimately the world. This Avatar does not care about non-benders. She does not understand or have time for the non-bender point of view. She assumes their concerns are silly. She’s a bully who uses violence against defenceless people. She’s fucking Mitt Romney with a ponytail. -- source link
