“Summer 3: Blue Hawaii” : Concept and Process bits Related to my most recent comic . It was a massive undertaking so I’ve been taking it easy lately. I went back and gathered probs the most coherent process and concept stuff for the comic from my sketchbook. (The rest of them are indecipherable sketch messes) The first was a reference of sorts for things like clothing and height. I think the most interesting thing drawing Pilar and Douman is that they technically have the same body type (inverted triangle), but of course that’s going to look pretty different between the two. It feels like an unexpected challenge, haha The other three were just sketching around, ideation. I was overwhelmed with ideas so I drew a lot, picked out things I liked, and eventually put it together. About the last one, there was a point in time where I had the idea where it would start off pretty normal-looking, but the environment would become more surreal. It was like, looking at the water, and as memories and dreams are tied together, a piece of a memory from an island vacation that is barely grasped. Stairs from a balcony door that descended into an unlit beach. Ultimately I decided against it; I couldn’t figure out the implementation and the surreal environment too closely resembled one from a dream I have yet to draw. -- source link
