soliloquiemagazine: hey guys !!! my name is gracie and i’m the founder & editor-in-chief of soliloquie magazine. we will be accepting applications for writers, artists, graphic designers, and editors. soliloquie magazine is an iconic place for young people and their creative freedom. i started this entire project because i live in suburbia new jersey, and idk what y’all have heard about suburbia new jersey, but it’s not very exciting. as a writer, i often felt silenced. there’s not a lot of places for youth to Scream and be appreciated and be listened to and be valued, and i sought to create a space where youth had a voice, hence the name: soliloquie. our intent is not to get the most readers (ok but like if we had like 1000000 followers i wouldn’t be complaining u know); it’s to support young creators. to give them a platform. i don’t know how many other ways i can say that this magazine is for you, it’s for everyone who’s ever felt stuck. issues are published quarterly, four times a year. each issue has a theme that all the content falls under. this theme isn’t meant to be restricting; it’s actually supposed to start a creative process. you can write whatever you want to write, you can draw whatever you want to draw, you can do whatever you would like to do, as long as it follows the theme. for example, for issue 002, the theme is ‘red’. you don’t need to do a poem that’s titled ‘red’ and all it does is talk about the color red. nah. this is meant to challenge you. you can write a poem about that childhood home you lived in for your entire life, and losing that home was like losing a part of yourself. all you could see was red the day you moved out. something like that. the theme is the only thing that is predetermined. everything else is a decision that the creator makes !!! the magazine is published online, on issuu. i’m just a 16 year old kid,,, i wish i could afford mass printing and maybe that will happen one day, but rn issuu is the platform we are using. check us out: issuu instagram tumblr youtube website we are looking for graphic designers, writers, artists and editors !!! please keep in mind that this is a commitment. i don’t expect you to spend like 20 hours a day on the magazine but i do expect you to meet the deadlines and to be communicative. if you’re not good at replying or submitting on time, that’s going to cause both of us a lot of stress, probably me more than you because i have a lot of Anxiety. this entire thing is online so that means i can’t Find you and see that you’re still alive even though you haven’t been responding to emails in like three weeks. don’t worry about the magazine work impeding on other things you need to do in life. i completely understand; i’m a high school student trying to get into college. it’s not like i’m just sitting around, chilling. i try to schedule all the due dates so that you have enough time to do everything, even if you have a particularly busy week. i’m willing to grant deadline extensions as long as you ask me. i sound like a teacher right now lmao, but it’s really important to me that you understand the time commitment and the need for communication. otherwise, let’s get into each individual role !!!!!! graphic designers: you will be the one designing the entire magazine. indesign is the preferred application. we already have a basic template set up so you don’t need to worry about that. there will be a loose color palette but you will have as much creativity as possible. if you’re also an artist, that would be very helpful too !!! our aesthetic hopes to follow that of local wolves & magnificat. you can find our first issue published here. it’s definitely a work in progress and anyone who is willing to help perfect the aesthetic is greatly wanted !!! accepting a max of 5. artists: you will be following the theme. any medium is welcome, but we’re looking specifically for more photographers and digital artists ! you can collaborate with a writer, create doodles for the entire magazine, or make your own article. accepting a max of 10. writers: you will be following the theme. any genre is welcome. any page length is welcome. basically anything is welcome lmao. you can write whatever you would like to write as long as it follows the theme ! accepting a max of 8. editors: you will be providing constructive criticism for the writer. our editor to writer ratio is pretty bad, so we’re looking for a Lot of editors. you should be extremely good at communication, and you should also be willing to read multiple drafts of the same work over and over again. being able to talk to someone else without fear of insulting them / Not insulting them and giving them helpful advice is a pretty good quality for an editor. accepting a max of 15. graphic designers: apply here. artists: apply here. writers: apply here. editors: apply here. all applications will close in a month, on march 14th. everyone will be contacted through email whether or not you are accepted. we use google drive a lot. that’s the easiest way to share files. if you do not have a gmail account i would suggest that make one. additionally, if you’re not comfortable with sharing your email, the best option i can give you is to make a new email account separate from your personal one. we use slack for faster communication and for group chats. it’s business based so it’s not a sketchy gc app like kik or something. all applications close on march 14th. this is rolling acceptances, so if i read your application and think you are a good fit, i will email you immediately. everyone should receive an email by the 14th. if you have any questions, please reach out to me through soliloquiemagazine@gmail.com, or shoot me an ask to this tumblr account. you can track the tab #soliloquiemag for all the information posted about this. i can’t wait to read your application !!!
