women-of-the-antiquity: Hegeso’s grave stele found in Kerameikos, from the Athens Archaeological Museum. Funerary monuments were painted over and a number of details would have been added. Hegeso is holding a piece of jewellery, retrieved from the case held open by her maid. Hegeso’s feet rest on a foot-rest (σκιμπός) and she must be also dressed with a himation over her chiton. She also seems to be wearing a type of headdress. On the architrave we can make out also her father’s name (Proxenos) -- source link
