northfalls:”Do I have an intimidating face? Not many men come up to me and give me one-liners.” — Natalie Dormer for GQ Magazine (x)I saw this gif set a few days ago and for some reason my very first reaction was “I should share the etymology of her name with people as it is kinda cool” :| Natalie is a late Latin Christian name formed as a conjunction of the phrase natale domini; literally “the birthday of the lord”, but practically translated as “Christmas”. Dormer should be pretty obvious; while definitively English, it’s derived from the French word dormeur meaning “sleeper”(itself derived from the latin verb dormire “to sleep”). So, her name can be read as “Christmas Day Sleeper” or, if one wanted to make it accusatory, “She who sleeps in on Christmas Day” ^u^ I wonder if she lives up to it? -- source link
