turntechgodoka: cookingwithroxy: elanorpam: turntechgodoka: Homestuck ending theory: Caliborn wrote everything post-retcon That’s why everyone has their problems waved away off-screen, except for The Alpha Male. That’s why the characters had their journeys wiped away and replaced with only a rush-to-the-end. That’s why the combosprites were presented in a positive light. That’s why Jane got nothing. Considering how they seem to have basically created the Earth the Calitwins would eventually populate, I’d say… yes. They played right into his hand. The story isn’t over, it just stopped being Homestuck. What, you guys didn’t realize that the entire point of this was that it was a predestination paradox the entire time? Here’s how it works. if the Beforus Trolls had succeeded, they would have made a world without Lord English. This was established when they discussed why Meenah killed everyone during their Scratch. Simply stated, in order to get a universe the trolls could WIN in, they made a deal. The consequences of which was that Lord English would exist. Eventually. And that was his entire plan, really. Once he got his powers, becoming Lord English fully, he’d go back to the beginning of things and establish his existence, working the steps that built to him into the structure of the past itself. Thus, how can you stop him, as he is already there? The entire STORY was a predestination arc. That’s why only the Alpha timelines were central. Anything that did not lead to the main universe was doomed, because the future was already determined when Lord English ascended. So the rest of history had to fit to the timeline that would eventually bring about the per-determined end result. Which, having been brought about, would go back and start things up in the first place. Shit, I got this all back during the middle of Act 6 Act 4. Well, I think the point is less “holy crap, another stable timeloop!” and more “holy crap, what if Caliborn had direct control of the narrative, rushed through the bits of story he found uninteresting like all that wallowing in grotesque emotions, and prioritized ensuring his future self’s creation over all else?” I can’t speak for anyone else who’s liking/reblogging, but there’s also a heavy dose of “and that’s why everything post-retcon felt so dang watered down and counter to previous themes in the story!” in the original post. *cough* If my dash’s expectations were anything to go by, most of us seemed to be waiting for Lord English’s loop of predestination to complete – though I wondered if his loop took place in another timeline that happens to break into the alpha, which must have happened to some degree if the retcon crew isn’t the group who confronts Caliborn as foretold in Homosuck. Lord English’s existence was guaranteed to happen, since it already had, but Caliborn hijacking the author’s keyboard just happens to explain why Lord English’s timeloop predominates, like Vriska facilitating the inevitable creation of Bec Noir back in Act 5. Tbh though, I figured the characters would either break free of the loop somehow as part of their victorious conclusion, or that the story would at least give a stronger nod to the fact they have no real agency and they’re still stuck at the mercy of Paradox Space’s whims clear to the end.
