awkwardfeministmoments: We all have prejudices and we all make mistakes. We’re only human beings living in a culture where we are socialized to fear differences in others. Being able to recognize and analyze our differences and prejudices is one of the most important things we can do as feminists and as humans. Realizing that the things we do or say can affect people is key. We must find ways to change our hearts in order to change our world; we must develop a sense of interdependence rather than falling into the old modes of “dependence” and “independence.” “I urge each one of us here to reach down into that deep place of knowledge inside herself and touch that terror and loathing of any difference that lives there. See whose face it wears. Then the personal as the political can begin to illuminate all our choices.” - Audre Lorde Admitting you were wrong is the first step, and it’s often the hardest, which is why I think it’s pretty courageous. -- source link
