dresdencodak:pirate-cashoo:Okay, I’ve become rather irked by how much the boobs-n-butt pose is so harped on, as if it’s some hilarious, impossible thing. These were done on a whim, so I apologize for the small/crappy photos and sketchy outlines. Once I find my camera again, I’d like to take some shots that show the whole body and how this pose actually works. These are all practical positions, and they were all relatively comfortable to do and stay in for a good period of time. Even though the boobs-n-butt pose looks a little funny, it’s entirely plausible and anatomically correct (although it can be taken too far). So, don’t be afraid to draw it. Hopefully these photos help a little with drawing such positions! EDIT: (again) Oh my, these notes. Well, I’m glad at least some people find these useful. Figured I’d add some drawings that show BOTH male and females in such positions. I think there are some people criticizing this post who are missing an important point. It’s not dismissing inappropriately objectified women in art, it’s informing how we have that conversation. The honest truth is that “practical” doesn’t have any value in comics at large, especially superhero comics, and saying something is “impractical” or “impossible” isn’t going to sway anyone. If you want to adequately criticize objectification with regards to a pose, you need to show where there is a double-standard and why. Saying “this pose is awkward” is a terrible foundation for an argument about this subject, because people can readily challenge it (like in the OP). Showing trends of sexual objectification on covers and the wide gap between how women and men are portrayed- that’s where you need to start.Pointing at a drawing and saying “bodies don’t do that” can be amusing, but it’s not substantial. The same goes for “impractical” clothing and the like. You can’t just say something isn’t realistic, you have to show where the gender disparity is. -- source link
