sinethetamagazine:Mountains May Depart (山河故人) dir. Jia Zhangke. 2015. Directed by leading Sixth Generation film director Jia Zhangke (贾樟柯), Mountains May Depart follows the lives of a young woman named Tao and her husband, a wealthy entrepreneur named Jingsheng, and their son Dollar, (Daole, 到乐). The film is divided into three parts, tracing the years 1999 and 2014 in Shanxi, and dives into the futurist imaginary of 2025 in Australia, where Dollar now lives with his father as a college dropout and has forgotten every trace of Mandarin he once knew. Mountains May Depart explores the newfound wealth of China’s middle class, migration and diaspora, and the ever-present alienation that accompanies globalisation. -- source link
