thefrizzkid:June is the start of Pride Month. While a lot of pride is parties and celebration, it’s also more than that. It’s vital to remember that it’s also a time of reflection, a time of remembrance, protest, and radical hope and joy. This year we remember the folks that were murdered in the Church Wellesley village due to a serial killer that targeted gay middle aged men, especially gay men of colour. We remember that Toronto police ignored cries of concern in the Toronto LGBTQ community that there was a killer, concerns that were voiced for YEARS. We remember trans women who died and were assaulted this year because the Church Wellesley village is not a safe space for everyone. We remember that Pride was started by Marsha P. Johnson, a bisexual trans Black woman, a sex worker, and activist, who protested against police brutality. And we remember that hope is a truly radical force, that joy and celebration can also be political and fierce as long as its inclusive and safe. -- source link
