fuckyeahfeminists: bloglikeanegyptian: so a couple of weeks ago i uploaded a comic about a hijabi superhero. i received a pretty fantastic response so i’ve tried to develop it a little further. so here’s part two - this time featuring FEMEN, my all-time favorite white feminists whose specialty is talking over muslim women. PS. her name is Qahera. I think I reblogged this before, but whatevs. I would probably always try to rescue human beings from life-threatening situations.I’m (a?) male but an estimation/suggestion: Why not (critical-rational and thus rationally stronger) female solidarity? Because all women or humans are already so structurally free now? Neither Femen activists nor female human rights activists in Muslim countries can claim that the struggle for emancipation of women or any other group has succeeded. So: Why fight each other instead of unjust(ified) structural hierarchies and unequal relations? Different views about the voluntariness of wearing veils or appearing topless for media attention doesn’t mean that the struggle cannot be partly coinciding. The struggle takes place in different structural situations and thus: understanding of the different starting points is important. But that doesn’t mean one has to fight each other instead of unjust structures and authorities. Imperialism as well as moral pretension has to be avoided. And then the energies are not wasted on “the naked against the veiled” or “the West” against “the Muslims” or any other ridiculous (but effective) constructions. It’s about hierarchies, structures, authoritarian pretensions of people against people. -- source link
