tatzelwyrm:Uniforms in Hornblower, part 9.Commander. Full Dress. ca. 1795 - 1812.Dress uniforms are apparently where all the gold lace went: The commander’s full-dress uniform included a navy blue coat with gold buttons down the sides, navy blue lapels and a collar all trimmed with gold lace. The coat was adorned with a distinctive pattern of gold lace on cuffs and around the pockets. It was usually worn with a white waist coat and a black cocked hat with a gold lace trim. The commander wore one epaulette on the left shoulder.(As with the undress uniforms the dress uniform of the post-captain is basically the same as the commander’s during this time period. Simply add another epaulette for a senior post-captain. Junior post-captains wore a single epaulette on the right shoulder. And apparently Mr Bush decided to show up to his commander’s wedding in his undress coat.) -- source link
