Progress pics of Ariel’s costume! This one was definitely the most work. I’ve still got more to do on it - as you can’t quite see in the last picture, the wings need attaching better, and I have a few more white scraps to add to it. My lovely Ariel actress is also going to be dying her hair blue before the performance! The wings - which I’ll post a proper picture of when they’re fixed - are made of one white skirt, cut in half and then into raggedy ribbons. The top I already had from an old dressing-up box, but I spent hours sewing on over seventy buttons, silvery things, and scraps of ribbon to make it look right. She got the leggings herself, and there’s a sash around her waist. The ribbon on her left wrist is the counterpart to a piece of white material tied to Prospero’s staff - we’re using this as a symbol of Prospero’s power over her, and at the end of the play it will come off. It looks particularly wonderful when she moves fast - all the ribbons float nicely! Am looking forward to finishing it off and seeing it in performance! For more props and costume posts or information about this production, see the hermitknut directs the tempest tag. -- source link
