To see a woman’s true hair was considered an intimate thing, really, so pretty much only a husband was privileged to see. In my opinion, it certainly made it easier to hide the condition of one’s hair whether it’s the absolute lack of style or the lackluster health of it or the utter lack of it (lost through age or disease). On another note, a headdress or hat often completes an ensemble & even today, an outfit is often enhanced by it. -- source link
