Sherlock Holmes & Dr. John/Joan Watson - A Fandom I have never seen Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke, though I wish to rectify that soon. I loved Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in the Sherlock movies - they rekindled my love for all things Sherlock. I fell in love with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in Sherlock. These days, when I read the original canon stories, it’s Benedict’s voice I hear making the deductions and Martin’s the one telling the story. I’ve only glimpsed Elementary but I’m not sure I’ll really be into it, though I enjoy seeing Lucy Liu as Watson. Perhaps I might change my mind in the future. I certainly haven’t closed the door on that. The point is - there shouldn’t be some kind of elite royalty or what not as a Sherlock Holmes fan. Maybe I will never be an expert on deduction or know all things Victoriana. Maybe I won’t memorize every minutiae of Sherlock’s life. But I enjoy the original books and even some of the pastiches that have come out. I like seeing new versions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson on screen. I love the characters and read and write the fan fiction and I enjoy having sane reasonable discussions about them. I love the videos and the pictures and the gifs. I enjoy the squeeing and the giggling and the humor and the cracktasticness. Fandom should always be about having fun, about discovering that other people share your interests and making friends as a result of that. There shouldn’t be some sort of tier or class or elite or whatever else you want to put in a fandom. If you love Sherlock Holmes, you’re a fan. That’s all and everything. I love Sherlock Holmes. I’m a fan. And I’m happy and proud to be part of the fandom. -- source link
