So the latest news about the Star Wars Sequels is that J.J. Abrams of new Star Trek fame will be directing. I haven’t really been paying a lot of attention now to the Expanded Star Wars universe and that’s mostly because a lot of the stuff now is all about the characters that I couldn’t care less about. I loved Star Wars when it was simply the story of Luke Skywalker - the fact that Darth Vader was his father made both Luke and Vader all the more interesting. I know the EU writers were hampered by the fact that they couldn’t explore Vader’s past until the Prequels which were, for me, a huge disappointment when it came to Anakin’s character development. So the movie Sequels - well, I’m just hoping it sticks to the story of Luke Skywalker, because he is still, for me, essentially the heart of Star Wars. Yes, I’m a Luke fangirl (well, fanlady now, I guess?) and proud of it! I’d love to see Mark Hamill as old Luke but with J.J. Abrams at the helm, will we see a recasting of the iconic roles? A new Luke, a new Leia, a new Han Solo? As long as I don’t see Justin Bieber as Luke Skywalker, I’ll be all good. (I reserve the right to DIE of a Squee Apocalypse if Benedict Cumberbatch is cast as a Star Wars villain - a Sith Lord, even. Fuck yeah, I’d turn to the Dark Side for THAT.) -- source link
