logarithmicpanda:I read a lot of books I loved in 2017!La Passe-miroir. I know most of you can’t read french but this was one of my favorite series of the years so I can’t not mention it. It has a subtelty I loved in it’s dealing with relationships, an interesting magic, and overall a good plot. I can’t wait for the last book to be released!Binti and its sequel were amazing and I wish more people talked about it! The worldbuilding is incredible for a book so short, and I loved every minute of it. The last book will be released in January and I’m super excited to read them all back to back! The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and its were everything I could ask for in a sci-fi book. Varied species with actual alien cultures, found families and so on… It reminded me of the mass effect games, with less war and more character development. (full review)And I Darken was that book that ended up being completely different from what I expected. For starters, I somehow got into my head there would be magic and vampires lol. It’s actually historical fiction, and character driven. Since I fell in love with the MC, it made for an amazing read! (full review)Strange the Dreamer became one of my all-time faves almost immediately. Lazlo’s character resonates very deeply with me, and I can’t wait to read the second book!!! (full review)The Bone Witch is another book that captured my heart. I love that it’s fantasy inspired by eastern asia instead of medieval europe! The way the story is structured also reminded me of Name of the Wind so it made it quite appealing for me. Super excited for book two! (full review)Soulless was on my tbr a long while and when I finally started it I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it! It’s funny and witty (actually so much so that the sequels don’t quite seem to live up to the first book… I still have two of them to read so it might change) (full review)We are okay was another surprise to me (as I tend to be disappointed in contemporary books…) but I ended up loving it. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful and relatable. Not pictured:Provenance: while I loved it less than the Imperial Radch trilogy, this book still has a lot of potential, a super interesting treatment of gender, and a good story. The Traitor Baru Cormorant: I’m still not sure how I feel about this book but it was certainly something. (full review)Wintersong: I loved this book for many reason, one of them being it feature’s my homeland cake lol (full review)Bitterblue: I loved the story in this one, it’s full of secrets (full review)The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms: great worldbuilding, I got the rest of the series for christmas and can’t wait to read them (full review)The Lie Tree: this book is intense and interesting and quite different from what I’m used tohi yes so thats a lot of books added to my list -- source link
