last-years-pizza:I feel like the most important part of this song is when Pearl says,“…now I’ve got to be there for her son.”No, not like it’s a bother. Not like she hates doing it. Of course not. We all know she loves Steven. But I think that part of her loves Steven because he’s Rose, and I think she knows this. Not solely because he’s Steven. I think part of the reason she wants to move on so badly from Rose is so that she doesn’t have to hurt Steven anymore.I remember in Rose’s Scabbard she lashed out at Steven and cried in part because she didn’t mean to do that, she never means to make Steven think it’s his fault that the love of her life is gone now, but it DOES happen occasionally. I’m sure it’s been hard for her to accept that Rose isn’t coming back and she knows in no way is that Steven’s fault, but it’s also hard because it’s really no one’s fault.I think she wants to move on because that way she can truly love Steven for who HE is, rather than the fact that he is a part of Rose (and she loves all of Rose, by default). She needs to love Steven for Steven. Not for Rose.I believe Pearl truly loves Steven but her heart has been clinging to him as the last remnant of Rose that she has. But Rose never chose Pearl to begin with, which is why Steven exists. Once she can learn to accept all this and truly move on, she can completely love Steven the way she means to.And I think this episode was a real step towards that for Pearl. -- source link
