This is a gravid female Jackson’s chameleon that died giving birth in the recent heat wave. At first glance, it might look like the babies are randomly arranged, but they’re NOT.Each baby is encased in an individual capsule, within a long tube (called the oviduct) that pinches off each baby like a single link in a chain of sausages. This chain of babies queued for birth are lined up in the same orderly manner one lines up for a TSA screening. The line of babies waiting to be born even doubles back, like during the holidays.Notice that the babies are arranged head to tail. They come out tail first, unlike human infants. The membrane capsule that contains them is very sticky, so when they come out, they stick to the first leaf or branch they come into contact with, and the baby wriggles free. -- source link
