spencers-bleeding-purse-blog: (credit to whoever took this screencap…)I have to post this again, because that comment annoys me so much. I still love the show, but I have to rant. If you -as a writer- can’t think of anything for your character to do other than to hop from one relationship to another, then maybe you picked the wrong job. I’ve read books by authors (Stephen King to name one), who managed to write stories with just ONE SINGLE character in just ONE setting..and even though this character was all alone, she still seemed to have plenty to do…Imagine that. And she still managed to keep my interest throughout the whole book. What you are implying is that Aria ceases to exist if she is single. I don’t even understand this. Why can’t NONE of the girls stay single for at least A WHILE?The relationships on this show are so awfully rushed. The girls are in love one minute and kissing someone else the next… I’m aware these girls are teenagers and maybe their hormones are on parade, but that still doesn’t mean that this is all a teenager is about.Plus it’s getting old because it’s the same story over and over again just with a different “love interest of the day”… These “filler” stories usually don’t go anywhere, nor do they seem to play a role in the bigger picture. So why bother? They break up in like 4 episodes later, so Emily, for example, can get back with Paige or Alison… then you’ll find a reason to break them up again, and the whole thing starts anew. Will the circle be unbroken?? And what is up with all those lesbians in Rosewood btw? Is Rosewood supposed to be like the Hellmouth in Sunnydale? One attracts vampires, and the other attracts lesbians? And why would all of them want Emily? A Hellmouth that attracts vampires seems more realistic than Rosewood attracting lesbians… that all want just one girl: Emily Fields.Even if this was just an act to get closer to one of the girls… we’ve been there and done that, too. Do these girl not learn from past mistakes?? Besides, you can actually get close to someone by just being friends, just sayin’.The pacing of this show is AWFUL! It’s fast paced/rushed when it should be slow (love interests), and S-L-O-W when it should be fast (action where stuff is actually happening and questions are answered). I figure there’s a reason why the “A” plot is so slow paced but I don’t understand why, in the meantime, you guys can’t think of something for these characters to do. Something OTHER than being in yet another relationship the moment they just got OUT of one. They break up in one episode and like magic, another love interest shows up the very next episode. This show is literally progressing in slow motion as the liars are still stuck in the past, and that’s probably because you have just this one plot (A) to write for… and it’s not long enough to fill up seven seasons which wouldn’t be such a big deal, but sadly enough you don’t seem to know what to do with the characters in the meantime. There’s so much going on around them, there’s plenty to do, plenty to keep them busy…like how about asking all the right questions for a change? Every time something happens, the girls ask a few questions but never the ones they should be asking. But if you really can’t think of anything for these girls to do, then yes, I would love to see Aria sitting around in her room, staring at the wall. At least it would be something new for a change. Or now that Aria is Ezra-free for the time being, why don’t you let her do some “other” activities at school? Maybe then the poor girl would have some entries in her year book. But no.. you introduce one unimportant lover after the next, so you can put all the good stuff into the last season. /rant -- source link
