alwaysbewoke:barnwezzy: @alwaysbewoke are you supporting her or against her?? 100% against her. That misogynoir isn’t recognized by your spellchecker makes no difference to whether or not it exist. Spellchecker doesn’t recognize CPM, but all of advertising is built and billed on CPMs. To use that as any part of one’s argument makes you ill-equipped to even discuss the matter. It is an argument a child would make and I expect more from adults especially when discussing important topics.Do not confuse white privilege or white male privilege with just male privilege. They were many types of privileges and disadvantages in our society. They intermingle and yes some times even seem to contradict one another. That is at the core of just being a human being. We are a collection of contradiction. A Black male does indeed live in a world where the police do not treat him with respect or high regard and yet still if he goes into a interview and a Black woman goes into an interview with the same resume, most hiring companies will believe that the Black man was more qualified. In that instance, he benefits from male privilege. I can go running at 3am without concern that I might be raped-male privilege. No matter the gender of the person who is attracted to me, they would never just touch me-male privilege. I get paid more than Black women even if we have the same experience, talent and otherwise-male privilege. The existence of this fact does not contradict that I am a part of an oppressed race no more than me being a friend to my friends mean that I cease to be a son to my mother and an employee to my company. Many things about a thing can be true and again I expect adults to understand shit like this. The fact that I make a six figure salary means that I enjoy class privilege and therefore can just decide on a whim that I’m going to Paris or I’m going to eat a “Glamburger” for lunch but that does not change the fact that any encounter with the police can mean my death because the cops aren’t checking my tax returns before pulling out their guns. The misogyny and sexism that Black women experience is almost always racialized. How many times must we hear Black men say things like “I don’t date Black women cause they’re always angry,” “Black women shouldn’t wear red lipsticks,” “Dark skin Black women always have bad credit,” “Natural hair on Black women looks like a rat’s nest,” “I don’t date Black women cause they look like cockroaches” and worse? How many times must we see music videos by Black male rappers where Black women are portrayed as strippers and sex objects but the white (or white passing) women are portrayed as pure and angelic? There is almost always a racial element to the sexism that Black women experience and yes it often comes from Black men. From white men? Of course their sexism against Black women is racialized but please tell me I don’t have to give you examples of those because what the fuck?! When you perpetuate harmful lies and half truths about a group of minorities, you help in their oppression. Oppression is NOT only the constructing of systems but it’s maintenance. Black men have always been in a position to silence the needs of Black women, to ignore the abuse of Black female bodies, to criminalize them for doing things Black men do freely, to dehumanize them and worse. In so doing, they perpetuate an abuse that may not have been started by them but they are keeping alive and in continuing it, they are now, within that context, as oppressive as the authors of those systems. If someone starts shooting at you for no reason, that’s criminal. If that same someone passes me the gun and I decide to continue shooting, I’m just as criminal. It doesn’t matter if I started the shooting in the first place. What Black people and all minorities must realize is that one of the ultimate goals of all oppressors is to brainwash the oppressed so much that they begin to oppress themselves and/or others like them. They’ll even promise you a chance at escape but only if you adopt their ideas, philosophies and behaviors. The very same ideas, philosophies and behaviors that oppressed your entire group in the first place they will demand that you adopt with the false promise that if you do, you’ll escape your otherness and oppression. Not only Black men but all minorities fall for this trick all the time and in doing so, they become agents of oppression against their own people. In the end Black men MUST understand these nuances about Black life if they are going to rise up, really make a difference and bring about change. It is NOT dividing to recognize your privilege as a male in this society. It is NOT dividing to recognize that Black women encounter a special breed of sexism and racism. It is adult. It’s grown. It’s fucking time! It is not “eliminating Black men from our communities” to recognize these truths. A specialized form of racism has been aimed at Black women from the days of slavery. This shit ain’t new! For all these marches for justice, it is disgusting how often we ignore the needs of Black women. Fucking disgusting and shit like the above is ignorant as fuck. It is not demanded of Black men that we repeat the mistakes of white men who in their fight for freedom left and ignored their women. We don’t have repeat the error. We can, should and must do better. As a side note, the tweet that brought this to my attention said “when she’s fine but be on that bullshit” which just proves just how hard it is to just find someone who’s woke out here smfhahaha. -- source link
