Teleporting Fish? The mystery of how fish end up in volcanic lakes is puzzling, and there are several theories as to how. We’ll try to explain some here.1- Ice. It’s possible that fish are frozen in ice, and when the ice thaws fish are washed down into the lake.2- Rain Storms. It is known that some rain storms can cause mini-whirlwinds that lift frogs, fish and insects into the air and dump them far from their place of origin.3-Birds. It’s highly plausible that a fish struggling in the grip of a bird proves too slippery to be held onto, and is dropped into a volcano lake from up high. It is also possible that birds spread fish roe from one lake to another unintentionally.4- It’s possible that man has stocked volcanic lakes, and whilst this is likely in some cases, it doesn’t explain the fossils of fish from millions of years ago found in ancient crater lakes before the time of man. Whatever the reason it’s still a mystery, and an interesting one.
