Our first entry for @um_spec_coll and @pemlibrary ’s #SpineTingling challenge comes from the Caroline Schimmel collection, which is highlighted in our current library-wide exhibition *OK, I’ll Do It Myself: Narratives of Intrepid Women in the American Wilderness*. Joan here didn’t make it in the show, but we couldn’t help but be intrigued by the spine of this 1926 edition of her chronicled adventures… Maybe “intrigued” is the wrong word for it—unnerved might approximate the feeling this little prune-faced gremlin instilled in us. Joan visits the North Pole so this featured creature is likely a benevolent agent of Santa, but the unfolding adventure on the book’s cover doesn’t offer much solace from nightmares. @iglibrariesCall number: Schimmel Fiction 1147http://ow.ly/B7US30lZd1Y* * *#wednesdaychallenge #bookspines #iglibraries #libariesofinstagram #rarebooks #northpole #illustration #childrensbooks #victorianauthor #pennlibraries #kislakcenter #specialcollectionshttps://www.instagram.com/p/Boed7EegvkD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16a7hzow17xfb -- source link
