birches-and-hawks:wusdiswusdat:intimrape:wusdiswusdat: GUTA a fearsome Hungarian demon who beats his victims to death, often associated with heart attacks, or sudden paralysis. & FENE The demon of illness. Today, a common saying still uses its name: “A fene egye meg!” and is uttered when something does not occur as one wishes. As a literal hungarian paganism/mythology/folklore blog I’m gonna chime in and say that first of all I love this! Absolutely obsessed with how you portayed them and I can’t wait to see more So that said, I wanna say that I very much dislike the wikipedia site for ősmagyar vallás bc it uses a literal nazi blog as one of the sources so its. icky at best. But with that out of the way, there are plenty of examples of mythological creatures coming into existence through them being a word for illness first and then later evolving into folks believing that hey, this is actually a demon ! which was likely the case with guta too. Different paradigms I guess but a megszemélyesítés can be just as much of a mythological creature as anything else, because most things in mythology started out that way. -- source link
