ask-the-werewolves: Hello! It’s the mod, that guy! That werewolf guy!Ask The Werewolves is still on Tumblr for the moment, but a lot of the posts are now hidden, and the anti-sex-work and anti-LGBT ramifications of the new censoring policy are apparently not a concern to the company as they are to me. This, combined with a lot of the user base up and leaving, have inclined me to move ATW off of Tumblr in 2019. This was the plan for a while, actually - it’s just happening sooner, rather than later, thanks to this. Tumblr’s been a decent platform for ask blogs over the past three years, but its inscrutable management has never placed it above “passing” in any way. Now, in ATW’s fourth year, it’s clear that there aren’t many advantages to using this site anymore. Its HTML/CSS coding UX is a mess. Its auto-posting feature only works with very specific syntax (and sometimes, doesn’t work at all). There’s still no inbox for read/unread/draft/sent messages. It still doesn’t accept GIFs above 3MB/500px, which is a ridiculously low ceiling if you want to animate anything good-looking (and I do). And now, anything that an algorithmic censor deems too risky is made all-but-invisible, for the benefit of advertisers and no one else. This is the last straw, in a very long line of straws. My goals with ATW have always been to make something funny and frisky, something that users could easily reach, something not beholden to advertising. Tumblr has engineered an environment where I can’t deliver those things confidently anymore - nor can anyone else doing more explicit work than I do - so it’s time to move out.For now, ATW will continue to be posted here, and Patreon, and Twitter, and Pillowfort. However, starting (probably) in Q1 of 2019, ATW will be getting its own dedicated website, where stupid crap like this is less likely to happen. After a few posts directing you to the new site, this Tumblr blog will stop.TLDR, the werewolves are still here, but it’s time to find greener e-pastures, and I’ll let you know when that happens. In the meantime, have a great holiday season! Feel free to keep asking questions. One or two posts will appear this week, and I’ll be on Xmas vacation after that. Keep on howling. -- source link
