ichihime:Ichigo and Orihime had been standing next to the snack table for a while. Or at least, it felt like a while, but it was probably about a minute considering the stereo was only halfway into blaring Last Christmas. And to be fair, he wasn’t staring at her so much as he was staring over Orihime’s shoulder at Tatsuki who wore a suspicious, shit-eating grin. They’d originally happened to run into one another while Ichigo had been snatching a handful of cookies to nibble on,Ichigo squinted, his brow furrowing in confusion as Tatsuki beckoned for both Rukia and Chad to join her in staring at Ichigo stare over Orihime’s shoulder while she stared at him with a patient, if not slightly bewildered, smile.The music blared, and Keigo was screaming about boobs or homework or the holidays or that Mizuiro was making fun of him again or something weird, but his cries mingled with the music and the din of the Christmas party, which soon became a dull buzz in Ichigo’s ears; his attention was too focused on Tatsuki’s peculiar behavior to allow for any distractions. Tatsuki’s grin almost seemed to grow as Rukia gently jabbed her in the ribs with her elbow, and Chad’s shoulders shook with a visible chuckle. At Rukia’s silent insistence, Tatsuki finally pointed directly upwards, motioning for Ichigo to look at the ceiling.Beads of nervous sweat gathered on his brow, and he wasn’t certain if the thudding in his ears was the bass of the music, or his own pulse. Either way, his gaze flickered upwards, and his mouth parted to form an ‘o’ of surprise. Above his and Orihime’s heads hung the source of Tatsuki’s amusement: a bunch of leaves held together and hung from the ceiling with a festive ribbon. But not just any leaves; mistletoe. Ichigo gaped, feeling a blush creep onto his cheeks. He was pretty sure those leaves meant you were supposed to kiss the other person standing beneath them. Or hug them, or give them a high five, or –something, he wasn’t sure. And when he looked away, his eyes fell on Orihime, who’d apparently followed his line of sight because she was staring at him with wide, honest eyes and a flushed face. If he hadn’t been blushing before, he certainly was when her expression confirmed that yeah, those goofy leaves were definitely for kissing.And if he were being honest, he liked that idea far more than a high five.Happy Holidays, @the-redfield-valkyrie!!
