A Book of hours, Paris (c. 1410). Showing a miniature of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, with the start of Mantins in The Little Office of Our Lady (or The Hours of The Virgin). A Book of Hours is a very common type of Medieval illuminated manuscript. Each Book is unique in it’s own way but follows a very strict Christian layout; often containing many of the same prayers and psalms decorated in ways that not only illuminate the words, but contain very powerful symbolism usually relating to the particular subject at hand. -- source link
