ywhiterain: I like Kisame’s backstory. It’s nice and understated and profoundly horrifying. The person who had to kill his own comrades for the greater good of his village. In doing so, he recognized that the ‘greater good’ was a load of crap. He joined the Akatsuki in hopes he’d get a world without lies. This is a really interesting contrast to Itachi, who also was used by his village to kill his own for the greater good. The difference it that Itachi never realized what Kisame did. Itachi may hate himself for what he did to his family, but he never saw that he was used. He never learned that his family didn’t have to die for the greater good. -- source link
