Fresh off a road trip with my friend Tasha, who was visiting the US for the first time in her life. its so fun to see these places with fresh eyes. Things I have taken for granted forever thrilled her. One thing that is impossible to take for granted about the West though, no matter how many times i get out and drive, is the sheer scale of it all. The massive expanse of the deserts, the imposing height of the mountains and trees, the endless straight highways with signs like “Next services 75 miles” is intimidating at the same time that it calls forth a sense of freedom.Tasha in Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes at sunrise.
