I like to shoot my friend Anita in nature because physically she represents the archetypal human - strong and lean (but not scrawny) and bronzed - like some Polynesian islander from ages past who works hard in the sun and sea to survive and help her community thrive. In my photography (and in the art my wife and I make as kozyndan especially) I like to espouse this kind of ideal - there is some notion that we have allowed ourselves to be TOO absorbed into our technology (hence you are reading this here and not swimming in the sea, riding sea turtles, or some other equivalent in your own climate), and hence too disconnected from the real world, the natural world. Now when I say the phrase “natural world” most of us think of it as some “other”, rather than our proper place of habitation, despite the fact that the “natural world” was where humans lived for 99.5% of our existence on Earth. You see some pics of a gorgeous woman (and I won’t deny - they ARE that too), but this other stuff is the kind of thing I think about when shooting. -- source link
