starksideofthemoon: History Meme : ONE WAR: the wars of the diadochi The diadochi were generals of Alexander the Great, who were faced with the selection of his successor after his death in 323 BCE. At first, Perdiccas succeeded Alexander as regent on behalf of his young son, dividing the empire by giving Egypt to Ptolemy, Syria to Laomedon of Mitylenê, Paphlagonia and Cappadocia to Eumenes, Pamphylia, Lycia, and Great Phrygia to Antigonus, Thrace to Lysimachus, Macedonia to Antipater, and so on. However, in less than a year Perdiccas was killed, and rebellion and assassination had alienated many of the generals and the territories they each controlled. Primarily, the Macedonians took arms against each other, leading to a series of over five wars that lasted in total about half a century. -- source link
