Some images from a late 9th early/early 10th century Irish illuminated manuscript known as the Mac Durnan Gospels. The manuscript was probably commissioned by Máel Brigte mac Tornáin (Mac Durnan), an abbot of Armagh, who died in 927 AD. Shortly afterwards the book was presented to the Anglo-Saxon king of England, Æthelstan, possibly as a diplomatic gift. Æthelstan, in turn, gave the book to Christ Church, Canterbury. This beautiful manuscript now resides at the Lambeth Palace Library http://www.lambethpalacelibrary.org/ -- source link
