feminismisahatemovement:intersectional-intersectionality:thatsyouthatshowdumbyousound:jooshcraft:What the fuck kind of math are they doing?Basically, the headline is clickbait. The attempt to justify it is the fact that over the past five years, the average work week duration for women increased, while the duration for men decreased.Only problem is, that after those changes, there is still a nearly 11 hour average difference in work week between men and women (about 15 hours five years ago). Still quite a dramatic difference, especially when factoring in overtime. That work week difference is just one of the myriad factors that explain the earnings gap (coming misnamed a “wage gap”) between men and women on average.Hot take here:They aren’t doing math because the audience isn’t men, it’s women. It’s not to say that women can’t do math but, when it comes to articles like this, the perception and emotional aspect is more important to women than logical or accurate statements. The title has already compromised the female reader who places that idea at the forefront. It creates an emotional state of injustice. The article then reinforces that with the first two paragraphs cementing the indignant outrage. After that, they present the womens numbers first, showing that there has been an increase in womens ours worked. After that is contrary information that the solipsistic mind now has to reconcile causing conflict and cognitive dissonance. Statement, confirmation bias, confirmation bias, confirmation bias, confirmation bias, contradictory information=cognitive dissonance. The emotionally compromised woman now has to decide if what she feels is false or if what is presented is false. And we know, women will almost always go with what they feel. It’s quite masterful manipulation. Women are working longer hours is true, if you take it as women’s hours have increased meaning it’s relatively longer than before. But while men are working less hours than before, they are still clocking more hours than women on average. But all they women are working longer than they were before and men are working less than they were before.Dastardly. -- source link
